Justin Sun, the founder of TRON, has announced plans to create a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) to support Telegram’s CEO, Pavel Durov. After French authorities mysteriously detained Durov at an airport near Paris on August 24, Sun promised $1 million to start the initiative, but only if the community supported it.

Justin Sun took to social media to reveal his plan, urging the global community to rally around the cause. He proposed creating a DAO, dubbed “FreePavel DAO,” which would serve as a platform for organizing support and resources for Durov’s release.

Sun’s $1 million offer is contingent on the DAO being formed and operated decentralised, ensuring that the movement remains community-driven. He has also tagged influential figures like Elon Musk and Mario Nawfal to gain broader support.

In response to Durov’s detention, Telegram issued a statement through its official News channel, expressing full support for their CEO and calling for a swift resolution. Despite the show of solidarity, the situation has caused ripples in the market, with the price of TON, Telegram’s native cryptocurrency, plunging by over 12%.

The circumstances surrounding Pavel Durov’s detention remain unclear. Initial reports suggested that his arrest might be linked to issues surrounding Telegram’s content moderation policies, but no official charges have been announced.

The Russian embassy in France has expressed frustration over French officials’ lack of cooperation as they struggle to obtain clear information about Durov’s status.

Amid the uncertainty, the cryptocurrency and Telegram communities’ support for Pavel Durov has surged. Social media platforms are buzzing with the hashtag #FreePavel as users speculate about the reasons behind the French government’s actions.

Telegram’s official statement emphasized that it adheres to EU regulations, including the Digital Services Act. It stated that Durov has nothing to hide, labeling any accusations against him or the platform as unfounded.
