Bitcoin Sell-Off Warning Grows as $81K Support Faces Pressure

Bitcoin faces renewed selling pressure near $81,000 as whale profit-taking, weaker U.S. demand and declining holder profits raise downside risks.

  • Bitcoin whales realized $156 million in profits and reduced holdings by 8,162 BTC in 24 hours, increasing pressure on market support.
  • Ali Charts identifies $81,000 as key support, with $77,000 and $67,000 below; reclaiming $84,500 could open targets at $92,000 and $104,000.
  • Short-term holders’ average unrealized profits fell to 5.5% from around 20%, with Darkfost identifying $76,500 as a potential support level.

Bitcoin faces renewed downside risks after the Federal Reserve’s decision, as Ali Charts reports whale profit-taking and weaker U.S. demand. Bitcoin rose 1.36% from approximately $80,628 to $81,721, but $81,000 remains critical support. Meanwhile, analyst Darkfost says short-term holders’ average unrealized profits have fallen sharply from October’s levels.

Whale Selling Puts Bitcoin Support Under Pressure

According to Ali Charts, Bitcoin whales realized approximately $156 million in profits recently. Their holdings also declined by 8,162 BTC over 24 hours, worth around $664 million. The analyst said this reduction suggests large holders are cutting exposure ahead of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) decision.

Meanwhile, the Coinbase Premium Index fell to approximately -0.17, one of its lowest readings since September. A negative premium means Bitcoin trades cheaper on Coinbase than Binance, indicating weaker relative demand from U.S. investors.

Ali Charts noted that Bitcoin’s first-hour response to tracked FOMC meetings often remained below 1%. However, a clearer direction tended to emerge within 24 hours and often persisted a week later. Markets largely expect the Fed to hold rates steady, while a possible December rate hike remains in focus.

$81,000 and $84,500 Define Key Price Levels

Bitcoin’s immediate support is near $81,000, where nearly one million BTC previously changed hands, according to the URPD data cited by Ali Charts. If that level breaks, the analyst is watching $77,000, followed by $67,000.

However, Bitcoin needs to reclaim $84,500 to strengthen the bullish case. Approximately 620,000 BTC previously traded around that level, with $92,000 and $104,000 identified as subsequent targets.

Short-Term Holder Profits Fall to 5.5%

Darkfost reported that short-term Bitcoin holders have remained profitable on average for almost two months. Their estimated cost basis stands at $76,500, leaving average profits at 5.5%.

That figure compares with approximately 20% less than a month earlier. Darkfost noted that the last comparable profit level occurred shortly before Bitcoin’s October 2025 peak. The market subsequently consolidated as short-term holders realized profits.

However, Darkfost identified $76,500 as a potential support level where short-term holders could defend their average entry price.
