Donald Trump has hinted at a significant role for Elon Musk in his cabinet if he wins the upcoming U.S. presidential election. The former president praised Musk’s expertise in artificial intelligence (AI) and innovation, sparking discussions within the technology and cryptocurrency sectors.
Trump made his comments during a recent interview, during which he expressed his intention to involve the Tesla CEO in his administration.
In an interview with ex-Navy SEAL Shawn Ryan, Trump explained what he wanted to do about Musk. He noted that he is thinking of giving the tech Tycoon a cabinet position, but his various interests like Tesla and SpaceX might make that difficult for him.
Instead, Trump demanded that Musk be made a federal cost cutting expert taking note of the billionaire’s AI expertise which could be helpful.
Trump’s admiration for Musk’s expertise was evident as he suggested that Musk could offer the government innovative ideas, especially in areas that intersect with technology and efficiency. According to a Bloomberg report, Trump stated, “He could sort of, as the expression goes, ‘consult’ with the country and give you some very good ideas, like on AI.”
The relationship between Trump and Musk has been growing stronger in recent months. The two have engaged in various discussions, including a detailed conversation on Musk’s social media platform, X, about the possibility of establishing a government commission to review federal expenditures.
Musk, who has shown increasing alignment with right-leaning figures, expressed his willingness to contribute to such efforts. Trump praised Musk as the “greatest cutter,” emphasizing his potential role in reducing government costs.
Musk’s influence in Washington has expanded, particularly as his companies secure significant government contracts. His recent backing of Trump’s presidential bid, including creating a super political action committee, indicates a deepening alliance. Musk’s advisory role could expand further if Trump is re-elected, particularly in areas like electric vehicles, AI, and cryptocurrency policy.
On August 20, following Trump’s comments in a Reuters interview, Musk took to social media to express his willingness to serve in the proposed role. He posted a picture labeled “D.O.G.E (Department of Government Efficiency)” on X, signaling his readiness to contribute to government efforts. This move has fueled further speculation about the potential impact of Musk’s involvement in a future Trump administration.
