- Tether ends EUR₮ support by 2025 to align with Europe’s MiCAR regulatory framework.
- New MiCAR-compliant stablecoins, EURQ & USDQ, launched via Tether’s Hadron technology.
- Focus shifts to innovative, compliant stablecoin ecosystems fostering community trust.
Tether has announced that it will cease support for its euro-backed stablecoin, EUR₮. The company has set a final redemption deadline for holders to complete transactions by November 27, 2025, marking a strategic shift toward aligning with evolving compliance frameworks in the region.
Tether has discontinued EUR₮ after extensively evaluating market conditions and user requirements. The company confirmed that no new EUR₮ tokens have been minted since 2022, and it has already halted new issuance requests.
This decision underscores Tether’s focus on emerging regulatory challenges, particularly in Europe, where the introduction of the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR) framework has prompted significant adjustments across the crypto industry.
As part of its forward-looking strategy, Tether has partnered with Quantoz Payments to introduce two MiCAR-compliant stablecoins: EURQ and USDQ. These new tokens are designed to adhere to the strict regulatory requirements set out in MiCAR, ensuring higher levels of compliance and user security.
Tether’s proprietary technology, Hadron by Tether, will serve as the foundation for issuing and managing these new stablecoins. Hadron offers advanced tools for tokenization, blockchain interactions, compliance, and anti-money laundering (AML) measures, streamlining the stablecoin lifecycle for issuers.
With this transition, Tether aims to enhance user trust while meeting evolving market demands.
Tether emphasized that its stablecoin strategy is deeply rooted in fostering community trust and promoting sustainable financial ecosystems. Tether seeks to drive innovation while ensuring a robust infrastructure for its token offerings by reallocating resources toward initiatives that align with regulatory frameworks and user safety.
The company has clarified that its primary objective is to create tools that enhance accessibility and usability in the digital economy.
EUR₮ holders are advised to complete redemption transactions before the November 2025 deadline. The cessation of EUR₮ represents Tether’s commitment to reallocating resources toward stablecoins that align with regional compliance standards.
