- SEC delays the decision on Franklin Templeton’s spot XRP ETF filing until late July.
- BBVA, a Spanish bank, is advising wealthy clients to invest in Bitcoin and Ethereum.
- Coinbase lists new Ethereum-based tokens, including Spark (SPK) and PancakeSwap (CAKE).
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has extended the review period for Franklin Templeton’s spot XRP ETF filing, originally due by May 3. The SEC now plans to make a decision by late July after soliciting public comments.
Franklin Templeton, a $1.4 trillion investment giant, submitted its application in March 2025. It is the largest firm to file for a spot XRP ETF, joining other firms like Bitwise and 21Shares in the competition. Market observers do not interpret the delay as a negative sign but as part of the SEC’s due diligence process before granting approval.
The move aligns with broader expectations that the SEC will approve some spot altcoin ETFs by 2025, with many speculating that XRP could be one of the first.
BBVA Endorses Bitcoin and Ethereum Investments
BBVA, Spain’s largest banking institution, has begun advising its private clients to invest in Bitcoin and Ethereum. According to a report by Reuters, the bank is recommending clients allocate 3% to 7% of their portfolio to cryptocurrencies, depending on their risk tolerance.
The recommendation marks a significant shift for BBVA, which began advising on Bitcoin investments as early as September 2024. This move sets the bank apart from the majority of European financial institutions, as about 95% of EU banks have yet to engage actively with cryptocurrencies.
BBVA’s stance is a major development, signaling greater institutional acceptance of cryptocurrencies. With assets under management totaling \$700 billion, the bank serves 80 million customers globally.
Coinbase Lists New Ethereum-Based Tokens
Coinbase has announced the listing of new Ethereum-based tokens that it would delist, such as Spark (SPK), PancakeSwap (CAKE), Lagrange (LA), and Ethena (ENA). The tokens can be traded at the platforms and mobile applications at Coinbase.
The listing of Spark, a new token, marks Coinbase’s continued support for Ethereum-based projects. Additionally, Coinbase has launched Spark perpetual futures on its International Exchange and Coinbase Advanced. The creation presents the users with increased readings, trading, and investment opportunities in the new Ethereum properties.
The decision of Coinbase highlights the increasing variety of digital assets investors can use on the platform, and it keeps expanding the list of tokens that users can obtain to trade and store.
