Robinhood has entered Indonesia, a rapidly growing market for equities and crypto. The California-based brokerage announced plans to acquire PT Buana Capital Sekuritas and licensed digital asset trader PT Pedagang Aset Kripto.
This strategic move allows Robinhood to serve Indonesia’s more than 19 million capital market investors and 17 million crypto traders. Moreover, the acquisitions highlight Robinhood’s ambition to democratize finance across Southeast Asia.
Patrick Chan, Head of Asia at Robinhood, said, “Indonesia represents a fast-growing market for trading, making it an exciting place to further Robinhood’s mission to democratize finance for all.” Consequently, Robinhood aims to introduce innovative services that have won global customer trust.
The acquisitions mark a critical step in Robinhood’s Southeast Asian strategy. Pieter Tanuri, majority owner of Buana Capital and PT Pedagang Aset Kripto, will remain as a strategic advisor, ensuring local expertise guides the transition.
Over time, Robinhood intends to add U.S. stocks, cryptocurrencies, and other products to its portfolio. With completion anticipated in the first half of 2026, each transaction is awaiting usual clearances from the Indonesian Financial Services Authority (Otoritas Jasa Keuangan, OJK) and other regulatory organizations.
Indonesia’s Crypto Market Appeal
Indonesia ranks among the world’s top crypto markets, according to Chainalysis, ranking seventh globally in the 2025 adoption index. Additionally, it leads Southeast Asia in crypto adoption.
The total transaction value of digital assets surged to more than 650 trillion Indonesian rupiah ($39.7 billion) in 2024, tripling the previous year’s volume. Hence, Indonesia’s scale and growth make it an ideal launchpad for Robinhood’s crypto and trading products.
Furthermore, Robinhood’s recent purchases in the UK, Europe, and the prediction markets industry point to a more comprehensive plan to expand and diversify sources of income.
One of the company’s fastest-growing revenue streams is the prediction market startup it acquired in November, which is connected to FTX. As a result, Indonesia emerges as the next crucial battleground in Robinhood’s international growth.
