Ripple’s XRPL Price Oracle Now Live, Enabling Key DeFi Advancements

Ripple CFN
  • Ripple’s XRPL Price Oracle enables asset pricing for DeFi protocols, enhancing the Ledger’s appeal for institutional-grade applications.
  • The Price Oracle integration supports key XRP Ledger features, including lending, AMM, and upcoming EVM sidechain, bridging DeFi and real assets.
  • The native Price Oracle positions XRPL as a robust choice for institutions in the evolving DeFi landscape with real-time asset data.

The new Price Oracle feature, based on the XLS-47 specification, allows XRP Ledger to integrate real-time pricing data for assets outside of its blockchain. This advancement enables smart contracts on XRPL to rely on up-to-date price data from other asset pairs in the market. Besides, this development positions XRPL as a robust solution for decentralized finance (DeFi), expanding its capabilities to accommodate institutional needs more effectively.

By using blockchain oracles systems that transmit external data to the blockchain XRPL ensures that decentralized applications (dApps) built on the Ledger have access to reliable, real-time information. Hence, this mechanism supports various DeFi activities, such as lending and asset management, by securely linking on-chain protocols to real-world asset prices.

Built-in Protocol Enhances Integration

Notably, XRPL already incorporates external oracles like Band Protocol and DIA, which can now interact seamlessly with this Price Oracle feature. These integrations allow data from external markets to be used for key XRPL applications, including real-time price feeds for AMM, lending protocols, and more.

    Supporting XRP’s Expanding DeFi Ecosystem

Several new applications on XRPL are expected to rely on this Price Oracle feature. For instance, the XRPL Lending Protocol can now access accurate pricing to set lending rates and manage liquidations. Similarly, the Automated Market Maker (AMM) and decentralized exchange (DEX) benefit from the Oracle’s data, facilitating fair market pricing across Web2 and Web3 marketplaces.

Moreover, the XRPL EVM Sidechain, which allows for Ethereum-compatible smart contracts, is set to utilize the Oracle, supporting synchronized data exchange between XRPL’s mainnet and sidechain. This update underscores XRPL’s commitment to bridging various blockchain ecosystems and fostering a more interconnected DeFi landscape.
