  • Ethereum Foundation launched a dAI team to coordinate AI-related standards, focusing on infrastructure rather than applications.
  • ERC-80004 drew attention from firms like Google, Cloudflare, and Coinbase, leading to early ecosystem development.
  • The dAI team stays small and neutral, providing shared standards so independent builders can create AI tools on Ethereum.

The Ethereum Foundation has created a dedicated dAI team and published ERC-80004, according to Tomasz Stanczak. He disclosed the update during an ETHPanda Talk interview. The move centers on standards development, coordination, and infrastructure support, rather than building artificial intelligence applications directly.

Ethereum Foundation Establishes dAI Coordination Team

According to Tomasz Stanczak, founder of Nethermind, the Ethereum Foundation formed the dAI team about two months ago. He said WDA Crapi leads the centralized AI-focused group. The team operates within the Foundation’s mandate to coordinate ecosystem-wide efforts.

Notably, Stanczak described the Foundation as a coordinator, not an application builder. Its role focuses on creating shared technical standards. These standards aim to support builders developing AI-related tools on Ethereum.

He explained that this approach responds to long-standing requests from developers. Many sought a common framework to support future applications. The dAI team now provides that foundational layer.

ERC-80004 Draws Attention From Major Firms

As part of the initiative, the dAI team released ERC-80004. According to Stanczak, the standard quickly gained industry attention. He cited mentions involving Google, Cloudflare, and Coinbase.

The standard relates to agent operation, dashboards, and registration mechanisms. Stanczak said it also connects to search and payment coordination. As a result, interest around Ethereum standards increased during the release period.

He added that ERC-80004 activity sparked visible ecosystem movement. Over the past two months, several stealth startups began building around the specification. These projects remain undisclosed, but development activity is ongoing.

Focus Remains on Standards, Not Applications

Stanczak acknowledged that venture capital interest in agent-based systems has softened recently. He said sentiment around agentic AI and blockchain cooled over recent months. However, the Foundation continues its standards-first strategy.

He stated that the dAI team will expand cautiously. Growth will remain limited to maintain its coordination role. The team does not plan to deliver end-user applications.

Instead, Stanczak said the Foundation aims to publish technical “canvas” layers. These layers allow independent teams to build applications on top. He added that additional ideas and releases from the dAI team are planned.

According to Stanczak, this structure keeps Ethereum’s development open and neutral. The Foundation supplies standards, while builders drive application innovation across the ecosystem.
