The EOS blockchain is under attack as scammers exploit user transaction habits. Cybercriminals are conducting address poisoning attacks, sending small EOS transactions to deceive users. Security firm SlowMist issued a warning, urging users to remain cautious. The attack method is not new but remains highly effective. Meanwhile, EOS is preparing for a major transition to Vaulta, introducing a new token and Web3 banking solutions.
Address Poisoning: A Persistent Threat
Address poisoning attacks trick users into sending funds to fraudulent addresses. Attackers create wallet addresses resembling those of major trading platforms. For example, “binanecleos” mimics Binance’s official “binancecleos.”
Scammers send small EOS amounts, typically 0.001 EOS, embedding misleading messages. Many users copy addresses from past transactions, making them vulnerable to such scams. The slight difference in addresses often goes unnoticed, causing unsuspecting victims to send funds to hackers.
This technique, similar to phishing and 2FA exploits, preys on human error. Scammers analyze transaction history, identify frequently used addresses, and inject fraudulent ones. Users relying on past transactions to copy addresses face the highest risk.
EOS Rebrands to Vaulta With Web3 Banking Focus
Besides security concerns, EOS is undergoing a strategic shift. The blockchain network is rebranding to Vaulta, signaling a pivot toward Web3 banking. The transition is scheduled for late May and includes a new token launch.
Vaulta will retain EOS’s existing infrastructure while integrating new financial solutions. Additionally, it will incorporate the exSat Bitcoin digital banking tool and partnerships with Ceffu, Spirit Blockchain, and Blockchain Insurance Inc.
These features will enhance its BankingOS ecosystem, offering comprehensive financial services. EOS tokens will transition into Vaulta Tokens, accessible through a swap portal and 140 exchanges. Further technical details, including the new ticker, will be revealed later. The EOS network must enhance security as it shifts to Vaulta. Address poisoning remains a critical threat, requiring proactive user awareness.
