  • El Salvador continues its Bitcoin policy, holding over 5,900 BTC, while supporting education and humanitarian projects abroad.
  • Bukele’s donation highlights the use of Bitcoin in regional development, focusing on critical educational infrastructure in Honduras.

El Salvador’s President, Nayib Bukele, has made a contribution towards education in Honduras. In a recent effort to support school construction, Bukele personally donated 2 Bitcoins, valued at approximately $133,000.

The donation was given to philanthropist Shin Fujiyama, who is leading a charity campaign aimed at building 1,000 schools in the country. Fujiyama, known for his non-profit organization Students Helping Honduras, expressed deep gratitude for Bukele’s generosity in a video posted online.

Bukele’s contribution reflects his ongoing support for Bitcoin and its potential for humanitarian efforts. El Salvador has embraced Bitcoin as legal tender since 2021, a decision that has attracted global attention.

President Bukele’s Continued Support for Bitcoin

The donation aligns with President Bukele’s broader commitment to Bitcoin as a key part of El Salvador’s economic and social strategy. Since legalizing Bitcoin in 2021, El Salvador has implemented policies aimed at increasing its adoption. Earlier this year, Bukele confirmed the country’s ongoing practice of purchasing one Bitcoin a day, a policy designed to increase national reserves.

Currently, El Salvador holds over 5,900 Bitcoins in its Treasury, valued at around $397 million. While Bitcoin adoption in El Salvador has not fully met expectations, Bukele remains committed to its future, stating that citizens are free to adopt it without pressure. Those who have embraced Bitcoin, according to Bukele, have benefited from its rising value.

Philanthropy and Regional Development with Bitcoin

President Bukele’s donation also signals his belief in Bitcoin’s ability to drive regional development. By contributing to the school-building initiative in Honduras, Bukele highlights the potential for cryptocurrency to be used for positive, tangible change in neighboring countries. The funds from his donation will go towards addressing critical educational infrastructure needs in Honduras, a country where poverty and lack of resources remain significant challenges.

El Salvador’s Broader Bitcoin Integration Efforts

Beyond philanthropy, El Salvador’s government has continued to explore sustainable Bitcoin initiatives, including mining operations powered by geothermal energy. These projects aim to address environmental concerns while expanding the country’s Bitcoin adoption. Additionally, the Salvadoran government has prioritized educational programs to boost public understanding of blockchain technology, further integrating Bitcoin into daily life.

As part of these efforts, the country’s Bitcoin holdings are used strategically, not just for economic gain but also for regional development and humanitarian work, as evidenced by the latest donation to support school construction in Honduras.
