  • Coinbase’s Base users can enter a space flight contest by minting NFTs, part of the ongoing Onchain Summer promotion.
  • SERA and Blue Origin team up with Base, offering six seats on an upcoming New Shepard flight through a unique NFT campaign.
  • Participants collecting all three NFTs are fast-tracked into the second round of astronaut selection, enhancing their chances to join the flight.

Coinbase’s layer-2 network, Base, has launched a unique promotion during its ongoing Onchain Summer event. In collaboration with the Space Exploration and Research Agency (SERA), Base offers its users a chance to secure a spot on Blue Origin’s upcoming New Shepard flight. This initiative is part of a broader effort to engage users through games, NFTs, and other interactive experiences.

Base Users Can Join Space Flight Contest

The space flight opportunity comes as Base partners with SERA, a leading organization dedicated to expanding access to space research. SERA has secured six seats on the New Shepard flight, allowing Base users to compete for one of these coveted spots. To participate, users need to mint a specific set of NFTs on the Base platform. Once minted, the final crew selection is determined through a community vote organized by SERA.

NFT Collectors Gain Advantage in Selection Process

In an innovative twist, SERA has released a triptych of NFTs that Base users can purchase. Each NFT costs around $3, similar to what other astronaut candidates have paid. Collecting all three NFTs gives users an advantage, fast-tracking them into the second round of the astronaut selection process. This gamified approach aims to make space exploration more accessible and engaging for a broader audience.

Base’s Strategy Excludes Token Airdrops

Base’s Onchain Summer campaign has been designed to attract users through various activities, excluding the typical airdrop incentives. Over the past three months, Base has recorded approximately 280 million transactions, outperforming other layer-2 networks by a wide margin. This approach emphasizes Base’s commitment to innovation and user engagement without relying on traditional token distribution methods.

Telegram, a widely-used messaging app in the Web3 community, has introduced updates to its in-app Stars currency, allowing users to tip content creators and channels. The Stars currency can be converted to Toncoin with minimal commission, further integrating Web3 functionalities into the app.
