  • Charles Hoskinson faces backlash for promoting a meme coin that lost liquidity, sparking frustration among Cardano community members.
  • Community divides as prominent ADA supporters defend Hoskinson amid accusations of irresponsible promotion of a meme coin asset.
  • Hoskinson’s poll about his role in Cardano reveals community tensions, with initial results showing a narrow division on his impact.

Cardano’s creator, Charles Hoskinson, faced an unexpected backlash after endorsing a meme coin that referenced his Halloween costume as “Waldo.” The controversy erupted after he shared a link to the coin’s price chart, drawing the ire of the Cardano (ADA) community, which found his endorsement troubling. This coin, like many meme tokens, ended up “rugged,” with developers pulling liquidity, leaving investors with losses. Consequently, some Cardano community members accused Hoskinson of irresponsibly promoting an unproven asset.

Community Reaction Intensifies

Besides the meme coin’s collapse, anger among the Cardano community rapidly grew. Notably, a faction within the community directly attributed broader issues in Cardano’s ecosystem to Hoskinson’s leadership, citing the recent drop in ADA’s value as a reflection of his influence.

However, some supporters pushed back, asserting that Hoskinson is not the root of Cardano’s challenges, even if he may occasionally court controversy. Significantly, criticisms escalated on social media, with several users labeling him a “cancer of Cardano,” a term that quickly gained attention across platforms.

In response to mounting criticism, Hoskinson launched a week-long poll on the social media platform X, asking if the community viewed him as a detrimental figure for Cardano. Surprisingly, the poll results show a tight split, with 50.5% leaning towards “yes” and 49.5% towards “no.” However, the poll is still ongoing, leaving the final sentiment within the community uncertain.

The poll prompted strong reactions from prominent ADA supporters, such as Rick McCracken, who suggested that the poll might be influenced by bots and declared that Hoskinson had been instrumental in Cardano’s creation and growth.

Furthermore, some supporters highlighted that Hoskinson’s personality might sometimes be “abrasive” but stressed that his intentions align with the growth of Cardano’s ecosystem. They argued that while Hoskinson’s outspoken style may not resonate with all, it reflects his commitment to the project he founded. Additionally, they dismissed the notion of him being a “cancer” to Cardano as misguided, viewing his leadership as essential to ADA’s future.

The Road Ahead for Cardano and Hoskinson

Despite the criticism, many ADA enthusiasts and community members continue to back Hoskinson as he navigates this latest controversy. Whether the ongoing poll and discussions will affect his standing within the Cardano community remains uncertain. For now, Hoskinson’s role in Cardano’s trajectory appears unchanged, with his leadership sparking both fervent support and criticism within this active blockchain community.
