Charles Hoskinson, the creator of Cardano, has responded to the recent tragic incident involving a failed assassination attempt on former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Former President Donald Trump narrowly avoided injury when Thomas Matthew Crooks, the assailant, fired a shot during a political rally in Pennsylvania on July 13. The incident resulted in Trump sustaining an injury to his right ear and tragically led to the death of a bystander.

Expressing his deep sadness, Hoskinson took to social media to reflect on the incident. He lamented that such events have become sadly predictable outcomes of the deteriorating state of politics in the United States over recent decades.

Hoskinson emphasized that radicalization is a complex process but often leads to political violence, which he believes characterizes the current American landscape. He criticized the shift from respectful disagreement to viewing opponents as inherently evil, leading to a dangerous polarization within society.

Hoskinson also pointed out the disturbing reactions on social media following the assassination attempt, noting that instead of calls for unity or further information, some responses showed indifference and even regret that the shooter had missed his target.

He remarked sadly on the prevalence of such attitudes, attributing them to a broader societal trend of dehumanization fostered by social media platforms.

Despite his dismay, Hoskinson refrained from blaming individuals for their reactions, attributing these behaviors to the systemic dehumanization perpetuated by online discourse. He stressed the urgency of recognizing our shared humanity amidst divisive political climates, emphasizing the need for reflection and understanding even amidst profound disagreements.

Hoskinson called for a societal reassessment, arguing that meaningful political change cannot occur in an environment where such extreme polarization and dehumanization persist.

His comments underscored a plea for empathy and mutual respect as essential foundations for any meaningful progress in today’s challenging political landscape.
