America is in a technology race, and Andreessen Horowitz (A16z) is acting. The firm raised over $15 billion to invest in crypto, AI, and emerging tech, warning that falling behind could weaken the U.S. globally.
Ben Horowitz, co-founder, emphasized the stakes on X: “If America fails to win technologically, it will lose economically, militarily, geopolitically, and culturally. And the entire world will lose as well.” The firm plans to strategically allocate the funds to ensure the U.S. remains at the forefront of innovation.
Besides national competitiveness, the fund targets technological breakthroughs. A16z outlined its plan to distribute $6.75 billion to growth initiatives, $1.7 billion each to apps and infrastructure, $1.18 billion to American Dynamism, and $700 million to bio and healthcare. Another $3 billion will support other venture strategies.
While the dedicated crypto fund did not receive new allocations this round, many crypto projects benefit under the growth fund. Moreover, A16z recently invested $15 million in Babylon, a Bitcoin staking and lending protocol, to strengthen the Bitcoin decentralized finance ecosystem.
Driving Innovation in Crypto and AI
A16z also highlighted trends set to shape crypto in 2026. The firm expects zero-knowledge SNARKs, prediction markets, and “staked media” to drive adoption. Zk-SNARKs, short for zero-knowledge succinct non-interactive argument of knowledge, promise to improve computing productivity dramatically. According to A16z, zkVM provers could deliver 10,000x faster performance, low-cost deployment, and mobile compatibility.
Prediction markets will increasingly integrate artificial intelligence. Large language models can act as oracles for dispute resolution and enable AI-agent-led trading. Consequently, the combination of AI and crypto can create more efficient, intelligent financial ecosystems.
Staked Media: Redefining Trust in Information
Staked media represents a novel approach to content credibility. Robert Hackett, of A16z, explains, “Tokenized assets, programmable lockups, prediction markets, and onchain histories offer stronger foundations for trust.” By financially backing their opinions, podcasters, analysts, and commentators can demonstrate accountability. Moreover, this mechanism encourages transparency and builds auditable reputations.
A16z’s crypto portfolio contains dozens of projects ranging from Coinbase to Yuga Labs. In the context of America’s rivalry among world-tech leaders, the $15 billion investment by A16z represents a bold move towards the leadership of crypto and AI.
