- World rebrands and launches World Chain, introducing a more powerful Orb device with Nvidia hardware to streamline identity verification.
- New Orb devices and World ID Credentials offer flexible identity verification options, including passport-based NFC verification.
- World App 3.0 adds deepfake detection and integrates with popular platforms for seamless access to World’s services.
Worldcoin, now rebranded as “World,” has officially launched its Ethereum layer-2 network, World Chain, along with several technological advancements. The announcement came during the company’s keynote address on Oct. 17, where World founder Sam Altman shared the latest developments, including upgrades to its Orb devices. These iris-scanning Orbs are now powered by Nvidia hardware, boosting their efficiency by five times while reducing their carbon footprint. This upgrade aims to enhance the devices’ capabilities while minimizing environmental impact.
Expanding Proof of Human Verification
Additionally, the company revealed plans to expand identity verification beyond the Orbs. The new Orb devices will soon be deployed in self-service kiosks, although initially, only select markets will have access. The goal is to streamline proof-of-human verification globally, making it more accessible. Alongside the Orb upgrades, World is introducing World ID Credentials, enabling users to verify their identities through NFC-enabled government-issued passports, which adds further flexibility to the verification process.
Moreover, World launched World App 3.0, which introduces new features designed to enhance security and user experience. One of the standout features is World ID Deep Face, which is capable of detecting and blocking deepfakes, providing extra protection against AI-generated media. This innovation is part of the World’s continued efforts to offer users greater security when interacting with digital platforms.
In addition to these updates, World has integrated its services with widely used platforms like WhatsApp, FaceTime, and Zoom. This move is expected to make identity verification simpler for users, allowing them to seamlessly access World’s services within applications they already use, thereby improving convenience and accessibility.
World Chain Mainnet Launch and Project Partnerships
The much-anticipated launch of World Chain, an Ethereum layer-2 network, also took place during the event. This network is designed to prioritize verified human users, offering them free gas allowances and access to block space. Additionally, World Chain is already collaborating with top industry projects, including Uniswap, Optimism, Alchemy, and Dune. These partnerships aim to bring enhanced functionality and efficiency to users of the World ecosystem.
WLD Price Reaction
Despite recent strong performance, Worldcoin’s cryptocurrency WLD saw a slight dip following the announcements, dropping 1.4% to $2.20. Nevertheless, the token remains up by 28.4% in the past week and has gained 47% over the past month.
