Vietnam Blockchain Association, along with Tether Operations Limited, has agreed to partner in popularizing blockchain and AI in Vietnam. Based on the collaboration of universities through organizing conferences and workshops, this collaboration aims to educate parties that are interested in using blockchain technology. The Vietnam Blockchain Association based in Ho Chi Minh City plays a crucial role in the development of blockchain in Vietnam and relevant training.
In 2023, Vietnam took the third place as the largest gainer of cryptocurrencies worldwide, behind the United States and the United Kingdom. Vietnamese citizens use crypto to access banking services otherwise inaccessible. Approximately 17% of the population owns or has cryptocurrencies, making Vietnam a hub for cryptocurrency activities.
Expanding Blockchain Education
This collaboration with VBA is a significant step in Tether’s broader strategy. It aims to promote bitcoin and stablecoin education in emerging markets. One impactful initiative involves hosting five educational conferences in Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, and other major cities across Vietnam.
Besides, Tether will support the VBA in the UniTour Program by developing educational content with the Academy of Blockchain and AI Innovation (ABAII). UniTour is a program designed for university and college students nationwide. It aims to drive passion and cultivate talent in AI and Blockchain among the youth. The program encourages students to explore career opportunities and pursue their startup ambitions in the technology sector. Additionally, Tether will support VBA’s SwitchUp Accelerator program, providing guidance, support, and potential investments for Web3 projects and startups.
Strengthening Blockchain Adoption
Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, emphasized the importance of blockchain education. He noted that the VBA’s work aligns with Tether’s mission to promote education in blockchain. Phan Duc Trung, Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Blockchain Association, echoed these sentiments. He believes that this collaboration will significantly promote blockchain education in Vietnam.
Moreover, Tether EDU, a newly established global education initiative within Tether, strengthens this collaboration. Tether EDU aims to teach emerging markets about the power of digital finance. It helps communities leverage blockchain technology for financial inclusion and economic development.
Besides the collaboration, Paolo Ardoino recently warned about the pitfalls of centralized large language models (LLMs). He pointed to OpenAI’s major security breach in early 2023. Ardoino believes that local AI models are the only way to address privacy concerns. Locally executable AI models protect people’s privacy and ensure resilience and independence. This approach contrasts with centralized models, which face criticism for unethical data usage and censorship.
