Tether recently revealed its role in assisting the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) in recovering more than $6 million in assets tied to a crypto-confidence scheme in Southeast Asia. The scheme, designed to mimic legitimate platforms, defrauded several individuals. Tether’s quick response involved freezing the assets, allowing U.S. authorities to seize them promptly. 

Tether’s Growing Role in Global Asset Seizures

Over the past 12 months, Tether has intensified its efforts to assist U.S. law enforcement in similar cases. Notably, the company played a pivotal role in disrupting other illicit activities, such as pig butchering scams and tech support fraud. 

In these operations, Tether aided in seizing nearly $9 million and $5 million in USDT, respectively. Its support has become critical in stopping fraudsters from exploiting the crypto ecosystem, emphasizing the company’s commitment to maintaining transparency and accountability.

Collaboration with Enforcement Agencies

Tether’s contributions extend far beyond individual cases. To date, the company has supported more than 180 enforcement agencies in 45 different jurisdictions. Its efforts have led to the freezing of over $1.8 billion USDT linked to illicit activities

Additionally, the company has helped law enforcement recover and redistribute over $128 million to rightful owners. This broad-reaching involvement shows the company’s willingness to take decisive action against criminal networks.

Tether’s Ongoing Efforts to Combat Crypto Crimes

Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, reiterated the company’s commitment to assisting authorities worldwide. He emphasized the importance of stopping the misuse of cryptocurrency and ensuring that global frauds are brought to justice. Tether has voluntarily blocked over 1,850 wallets connected to criminal activity, further aiding global enforcement agencies in their ongoing efforts.
